About
Sophie Michelle Clarke is a soprano based in the Washington D.C. Metro area who specializes in new and chamber works. Recently Sophie sang in a workshop performance of a new opera by Paola Prestini, “Sensorium Ex,” at The Reach in the Kennedy Center. Sophie also recently premiered a new solo piece by Zac Fick-Cambria titled “Plowshares” which is a piece that calls for an end to violence and war. It is a primary career goal for Sophie to present such works that speak to her as being valuable for the audience both artistically and intellectually. Sophie has sung as a soloist for the Easton Choral Arts Society and has sung with the Annapolis Opera Chorus. Sophie is a sought after early music singer as well and has sung for several local churches as cantor and section leader. Sophie holds a master’s degree in vocal performance from the Peabody Conservatory and a Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of California Berkeley.

Sophie has founded a treble ensemble that will be launched at this beautiful recital of lieder by the German female composer, Josephine Lang. A contemporary of Mendelssohn and the Schumanns, Lang was a hugely successful composer in her time, however today her works are not well know. The mission of The Cecilia Collective is to expand the classical music canon by performing works written by gender-marginalized composers.
Barbershop Harmony Society International Competition
Sophie will be performing with the Alexandria A Cappella Collective and Metro Voices in the BHS International Competition.
